Various Home Security Systems and Advantages of Using It

Safety is always bothering every home owner, to secure household possessions from theft. Everyone has an instinctive need for protecting things. However, it is always not possible to keep everything under control and prevent from missing. The advancement of technology has given hands to increase home security as needed. There are many security systems designed to serve various needs of protection and prevent theft.
With many types available for protecting from burglars, theft, fires and any other disasters, most of the, becomes confused about which type to fix. The security system must be chosen based on how much security is needed, based on neighborhood you are living in, costs and many other factors. There are basically two types of security systems installed for home safety and they include: monitored and unmonitored.

Monitored System:

This system alerts central call center when it is tripped by an intruder or burglar. The call center will wait for up to 45 seconds when alarm trips, to ensure that owner did not accidentally set it off. If alarm continues, then call center will attempt to immediately contact home owners for a password and if this becomes unsuccessful, then they will alert concerned authorities.
Moreover, this monitored method will also signal authorities, in case of a gas leak, fire or flood. The main advantage of this type is, there is no need to depend on neighbors to help contacting authorities.

Unmonitored system:

This is a cost effective system popularly used by most of homeowners. When alarm is triggered by a burglar, it produces heavy siren noise both inside and outside of home. This siren will scare intruder even before he enters home. This becomes a safer option, as even when there is no one at home; the noise will alert neighbors to call police. But it will not help calling monitoring company.
Both monitored and unmonitored types can be set with cameras, sensors, motion detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, fire, keypads and with video displays. Such setups can be wireless or hardwired. However, most of them prefer wireless home securities which are easier to set up and there is no need for new wires to be installed in walls.  Since installation is easier, it can be installed without help of technicians.
Most of security systems are connected by radio transmitters and receivers that are battery powered. However, the only limitation is that, these systems can function only to a limited distance, due to the ability of receiving signals by radio transmitters.

Advantages of Security Systems:

  • Gives security against entry of unwanted persons into home. It helps avoiding unwanted invasions. It is an obvious fact that when alarm system is installed in a home, then thief would think twice before attempting to enter
  • Loss can be prevented due to 24 hours monitoring
  • Some burglars become hostile when they are interrupted by homeowners while robbing. There is a chance for violence to happen if they are not allowed to do their job. But alarm system will forewarn and wait until help arrives
  • Insurance company gives discounts for up to 20% when a home is installed with alarm system, this is because the home is less likely prone to burglarized
