Most cases are diagnosed between 6 to 12 years of age. As the symptoms increase with age they show up more when the person gets older. Along with a lack of concentration, insomnia and anxiety disorders are seen in many patients. It is the duty of parents to keep a check on the Childs behavior and determine according to the symptoms before seeing a specialist.

Common symptoms:

Symptoms are divided into two categories based on the three behavioral problems namely, inattentiveness, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. Most of them have all the three issues but in a few cases, a kid either suffers from in-attentiveness (ADHD-attention deficit disorder) and they are not impulsive and hyperactive(ADHD) ADHD sometimes gets unnoticed as the symptoms are less shown; we end up thinking that the kid is Slow in learning.

There are a few symptoms that will help us find out if the kid has ADHD and then we can have a brief discussion about the ADHD treatment.

Mostly a child is diagnosed with ADHD before the age of 6 years. If observed properly and carefully, we can have good chances to get them back to normal.

Few signs of inattentiveness or ADD in kids and teenagers:

  • Less focussed and have a short span of attention
  • Difficulty in  performing tedious tasks
  • I cannot do a time-consuming task or impatient.
  • Cannot effectively carry out instructions

Few signs of Hyperactivity and impulsiveness in kids and teenagers(ADHD):

  • Cannot sit still, and stay calm
  • Cannot concentrate on tasks given
  • Too much talking
  • No patience to wait for their turn
  • No sense of danger
  • Interrupts conversations
  • Cannot tolerate a straight NO
  • Starts behaving wild, when there is an anxiety attack, has a problem playing quietly
These symptoms not only cause significant difficulties in a child’s life but also make the parent's life difficult. ADHD treatment helps both the child and the parents accept the situation and stay in reality. In this way, the condition of the child can be improved and the child is completely aware of the problem when he reaches a certain age.

ADHD treatments are of two types:

Medication-Stimulants and non-stimulant medication therapies.

As a parent, many of them are not willing to give their kids medication, but both the parents and the doctors should discuss all the pros and cons and act for the kid’s welfare.

The medication used in ADHD treatment has few side effects namely:
  • An upset gut
  • Irritability
  • Headache
  • Insomnia
  • Nervousness
  • Dry mouth
  • Weight loss
  • Severe side effects may involve hallucination, high blood pressure, suicidal symptoms, etc.
The specialist prescribes medication keeps in mind the Childs condition and routine. Apart from medication therapy is also a part of ADHD treatment and helps the kid cope up with his condition. It is very important to educate the child about his disorder and make parents how to help him deal with it in daily life. There are some special sessions conducted only for the parents on how to behave when their ADHD child is around. Being a parent to such special children is difficult but it’s important to notice the child’s actions and train him in some field where he is interested. This will give them the confidence to stand up for themselves in society.
